This Broccoli fried rice is perhaps the easiest way of making a broccoli recipe at home. It comes together in no time and has the goodness of veggies. If you wish you can go with broccolis only, but I love to add carrots to add a touch of colour to break the monotony of green.
This broccoli fried rice recipe is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and nuts free. I have used long-grained Basmati rice to make this rice dish, which can be served with any gravy side dish such as Indian curries or Thai gravies.
This Broccoli recipe is pretty straight up. It needs no fancy equipment or a wide array of ingredients. Just good quality rice and freshly cracked peppercorns. That’s it.
Here, I have served this Broccoli fried rice with Indo-Chinese style Chilli Fish gravy. This was for our lunch one day and we had an amazing time.
Broccoli Fried Rice Ingredients
- Broccoli head, along with the stalk and the smaller leaves – cut them into bite-size pieces
- Long-grained Basmati rice
- Carrot
- Onion
- Garlic
- Refined Sunflower oil or Light Olive Oil
- Salt & Pepper
This is an absolute no-fuss one-pot rice recipe. We are going to dump everything together in a wok and then allow them to cook together. There are two things to be kept in mind while making this Broccoli recipe. First, the rice should be washed thoroughly and the rice-to-water ratio should be 2:1.
If these two things are kept in mind, there’s no way of messing this recipe up. In the end, you will nicely cooked veggies with non-sticky flavorful rice.
Variations of Broccoli Fried Rice recipe
In case you have leftover rice in your fridge you can use that as well. All you have to do is fry the veggies as mentioned in the recipe below and add the pre-cooked rice to it. Give it a nice mix and then serve.
This Broccoli fried rice is perfect for lunch boxes, office potlucks, family get-togethers, etc.
In case you wish to fortify this fried rice recipe with Broccoli further (like I do often!), you can add a few more vegetables to it like French beans, peas, bell peppers, cauliflower, spring onion, etc.
You can also add shredded roasted chicken or poached chicken, scrambled eggs, tofu cubes, paneer cubes, or poached white fish to make this Broccoli fried rice recipe protein-packed and a wholesome meal into one.

- 1 cup Long grained Basmati Rice
- 2 cups Water
- 3 tbsp Refined Sunflower Oil
- 1 cup Broccoli Cut in small pieces
- ½ cup Carrots Cubed
- 1 Onion Medium, Sliced
- 6 Cloves of Garlic Chopped
- Salt to Taste
- 1 tsp Peppercorns Freshly cracked

Wash the rice thoroughly till you see the rinse off clear water. Strain the water and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan and saute the garlic and onion till they turn soft.

Add the broccoli and carrots and continue cooking for next 2-3 minutes.

Now, add the washed rice and give it a mix.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add the water and give it a gentle mix.

Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer on medium heat for next 10-15 minutes or till the water has been absolrbedcompletely and the rice has cooked.

Turn off the heat and fluff it using a form or chopsticks. Cover the lid again and allow it to rest for next 10 minutes.

After that serve.
