This GRILLED FISH with LEMON BUTTER SAUCE is a very special dish to both of us. Back when we were dating, we used to frequent this place called Scoop at New Market in Kolkata.
And, THIS is what we used to have there, every time. We would enjoy this with a glass of Iced Tea, which would be followed by a stroll through the Hoggs Market before he would drop me back at my place.
All of this came back flashing to us when we were enjoying this plate of perfectly grilled Basa fillet, topped with the most luscious Lemon Butter Sauce. So while we had our lunch that day, we reminisced about our courtship days, how I would ride with him on his bike, and so much more! This is the power of food.
In this recipe, the fish can be made in two ways. First, you can prepare the fillet and grill in your oven over a grilling rack. Or, you can sear them in a grilling pan on your gas stove. Both methods are equally easy and give you equally delicious results. I will tell you both ways of grilling a Basa fish fillet. But first, let’s see how to make this easy Lemon Butter sauce at home.
How to make Lemon Butter Sauce?
To start with, these are the ingredients for this easy Lemon Butter Sauce recipe:
- Lemon Juice – 2 tbsp
- Melted Butter – 2 tbsp
- Honey – Mustard Sauce – 1 tbsp
- A pinch of Salt
- Pepper Powder – 1/2 tsp
Simply combine them in a bowl and whisk them till it becomes smooth and luscious. That’s it. If you don’t have Honey Mustard Sauce, then you can use simple American Mustard Sauce instead. In no time you have yourself a delicious sauce for grilled fish, which can be used as a dip for the boiled vegetables as well.
Easy recipe for grilled fish fillet: How to grill a fish on stove & oven?
Cooking a fish fillet is probably the easiest job. Fish in any way cooks fast. And when you have yourself some beautifully de-boned Basa fish fillets, grilling and serving them becomes even easier.
Once you grill a fish, it is ready to be served with boiled vegetables, mashed potatoes and a couple of slices of bread as sides with grilled fish. In fact, you can use this recipe of grilled fish for tacos as well.
How to grill fish in the oven?
To grill fish in an oven, you will need the grilling racks and a baking tray underneath it. Place the prepared fish fillet on your rack and then place the rack on a bigger baking tray so that the drippings can be collected in it. Now grill it in your oven. Turn them over in the mid-way for more uniform cooking. Once thoroughly cooked, you may transfer it on the baking tray laid beneath the rack and grill it again for a couple of minutes to get that char. This time place the tray on the top shelf.
How to grill fish on a stovetop?
Heat your grilling pan and melt a knob of butter. Using a silicone brush, spread the butter on the pan. Once it’s hot enough, place the fish fillet on your hot pan and sear. After 3-4 minutes, turn them over. Once both sides are seared enough, take them out and serve.

- 250 gms Basa Fillet one whole fillet
- Salt to Taste
- ¼ tsp Pepper
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
- ½ tsp Garlic Paste
- ½ tsp Ginger Paste
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 2 tbsp Butter Melted
- 1 tbsp Hone Mustard Sauce Alternative, American Mustard Sauce
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp Pepper Powder

Combine the ginger paste, garlic paste, salt and pepper with olive oil and make a marinade paste.

Slather it on the fish fillet and let it be for 10-15 minutes.

Place the prepared fish fillet on your rack and then place the rack on a bigger baking tray so that the drippings can be collected in it.

Now grill it in your oven. Turn them over in the mid-way for more uniform cooking. In my oven, I grilled each side for 10 minutes.
