Every year, the Rann Utsav engulfs the lustrous white desert of Dordo at Kutch with festive extravaganza and vibrancy. Organised by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, the festival is a melting pot of cultures, sights and sounds, which reflects the distinct spirit of Gujarat. Rann Utsav is like a never-ending journey, celebrated over ninety days during the full moon nights of winter months. This year, the Rann Utsav will be celebrated from 1st November, 2018 to 20th February, 2019, to let you embark on a journey full of festive fervor.
Rann Utsav features the cultural grandiose of Gujarat, along with offering a unique chance to witness the breathtaking beauty of the land that stretches from grasslands to pristine beaches and vast desert. This festival offers access to Gujarat’s diverse topography. The celebration consists of a wide range of eventful activities which can be experienced during the entire course of Rann Utsav. As the festival marks the beginning of winter, the celebration starts post Diwali followed by events such as Christmas & New Year Eve celebrations. The beauty of Rann can be best experienced during full moon. During this time, the white salt desert of Rann shines bright like a diamond and emits a magical aura. This year travellers can experience this during the full moon on 22nd – 24th November, 2018; 21st – 23rd December, 2018; 20th -22nd January, 2019 and 18th – 20th February, 2019
The Kite Flying Festival is an important part of Rann Utsav. It holds special cultural significance as it marks the beginning of Makar Sankranti. Also known as the festival of Uttarayan, the event has a huge international appeal. Tourists, kite-makers and flyers come from around the globe come to take part in the event. The festival displays a tapestry of colours as thousands of kites swing and swirl through the bright sunny sky of Gujarat.
Thrill is on the card, as this year, adventure sport will form a big part of Rann Utsav. Adventure enthusiasts and travellers can indulge themselves in raw fun through various action packed activities like Para-Motoring, Desert car rally, Hot Air Ballooning, All-Terrain Vehicle ride, Rifle Shooting and many more.
