Ours is a family of sandwich lovers. No, let me go back a bit. We love bread, in every form. So, sandwiches are very often on our dinner menu. This SUBWAY-STYLE SANDWICH for breakfast has everything favourite of us.
Two fat herby sausages, wrapped between slices of cheese and a salad of onion, tomato, jalapenos and red paprika went into the making of this delicious sandwich. I used multi-grain & multi-seed loaves here, thus making these even more delicious.
Oh! Not to forget the absolute must-have ketchup and honey mustard that neatly packed the flavours as subway sandwich sauces. If you are looking for classic flavours then you can go for Dijon Mustard here. Some people love Mayonnaise in their footlong sandwiches, which I think adds a ton of flavour and richness to it.

Ingredients to make subway-style chicken sandwich
- Footlong loaves – cut in halves.
Alternate would be sandwich loaves. I have used multi-grain and multi-seed loaves for a healthier version of the Italian subway sandwiches - Breakfast sausages.
For more flavours to my homemade subway sandwiches, I have used herb & chilli chicken sausages - Sandwich salad veggies like onion, tomato, etc.
- Sliced Jalapenos
- Sliced Red Paprika
- Cheese slices
- Ketchup
- Honey Mustard Sauce
Instructions to make a subway-like chicken sandwich
- Take a frying pan or skillet and fry the sausages in a teaspoon of butter. Once they are crisp on all sides, take them out.
- Slit the footlong loaves at the sides, lengthwise and open them up. You can toast them in a toaster oven, or place them on a skillet. Take them out once they turn crispy
- Place a layer of cheese slices and then place onion rings and sliced tomatoes.
- Now place the fried sausages and top it with the sauces.
- Repeat the layers of veggies and cheese and place the top half of the loaves.
- Brush some melted butter on the top and place them on a baking tray. Put them in the microwave and heat it on full power for a minute to melt the cheese.
- Serve immediately.
Recipe variations to this homemade Subway Sandwich
As I was telling you before, this homemade subway sandwich recipe is so versatile that you can replace any of the above ingredients with anything else to make different variants of it. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- If you are looking for veg subway sandwich recipe then all you have to do is omit the chicken sausages from this recipe and stuff in more veggies like lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers, cabbage, baby spinach leaves, etc. between the loaves and enjoy.
- For Jain subway sandwich recipe, omit the chicken and onion, and use veggies like those mentioned in the first point. You may add a couple of slices of fresh paneer or fried paneer to your subway sandwich to make it more wholesome.
- One of our favourite variations to this chicken sub sandwich recipe is that of the tuna subway sandwich recipe, where all you have to do is shred some tuna and mix it with some mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt & pepper and put it between the loaves and veggies. It is again very light and delicious.

- 4 Chicken Sausages
- 1 Onion
- 1 Tomato
- 4 Cheese Slices
