This sabut green moong dal tadka is both delicious and an easy side dish that comes together with very minimal effort. Plus, it requires no prior soaking or elaborate prep-work! Chilka moong dal is an unpolished dal, hence a preferred option for a dal recipe.
Wash & soak the Green Moong Dal in water for 30 minutes.
1 cup Green Moong Dal /Sabut Moong Dal
Now, drain the soaked water and pressure cook the dal with 2 cups of water, salt, and a drizzle of Mustard oil. Allow it to whistle once only. Turn off the heat and allow the pressure cooker to cool on its own.
2 cups of Water, Salt to Taste
Grind the onion, ginger and tomatoes together into a paste.

Now, heat the ghee/oil in a pan and temper it with hing/asafoetida, cumin seeds, and chopped green chilies. As they splutter, add the onion-tomato masala mix and fry till it's cooked.
3 tbsp Ghee or Refined Oil. Avoid Ghee if Vegan, ¼ tsp Hing or Asafoetida, ½ tsp Cumin Seeds, 2 Green Chillies
Add the powdered spices and give everything a mix. Once everything is cooked, add the cooked dal. Allow it to simmer for a couple of minutes before serving.
2 tbsp Coriander Powder, 1 tsp Kitchen King Masala Powder
Serve with sliced onion or coriander leaves on top.
