So, let’s get cooking.

How to make Creamy Farfalle Pasta recipe with Bacon – Ingredients list

  • Farfalle Pasta or Bow Tie Pasta – well, this recipe is equally delicious with any other kind of pasta. You can try and let me know in the comments.
  • Bacon
  • All-purpose Flour
  • Garlic
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Fresh Cream
  • Salt & Pepper

Step-by-Step Instructions on how to make this easy & garlicky Bacon Farfalle Pasta recipe

  • Get a big pot of water with some salt on the hob and get it to a rolling boil. Cook the farfalle pasta or bow tie pasta as per the instructions on the packet. Cook till it is 80% done. That means, stop when the pasta is just almost done. At this stage, the wings of the bow tie pasta will appear transparent but the centre would still come out undone
But trust me when I say that this is the time when you should stop cooking. Remove a cup of starchy pasta water and drain the rest.
  • Now, fry the bacon in a wide mouth frying pan. Use a knob of butter or a slight drizzle of oil. Soon you will find the bacon shrinking and releasing the fat and flavour
  • Once the bacon strips have turned brown and crispy, take them out of the pan. Remove some of the bacon fat from the pan, leaving behind just enough to get the sauce going. You can use the removed bacon fat to make some fried rice later or some more spaghetti
  • In the same pan, add some finely chopped garlic and let it sizzle on low heat. We want it to release all its flavour into the fat, without burning them.
  • As they begin to turn golden, add the all-purpose flour and stir. If you wish to make it gluten-free then, add a teaspoon of cornflour instead. Soon you will see that the flour has become lump-free.
  • Now, pour the milk in and whisk vigorously. Make sure that there are no more lumps in the sauce.
  • Add freshly crushed pepper and mix.
  • Now, add the boiled pasta along with the pasta water, fresh cream and half of the fried bacon. Mix everything well.
  • Check for seasoning and add salt as needed.
  • Once the sauce gets a perfect consistency (as per your preference!), turn off the heat. Serve hot with a garnish of the remaining fried bacon.

Note: In this creamy bow tie pasta recipe, I have skipped adding cheese. However, you may add some as per your choice. Parmesan, Cheddar or even Mozzarella goes perfect into this farfalle pasta dish. I have used milk and cream in a 2:1 ratio to make the sauce. You may adjust it as per your taste. You can also skip the cream if you want!

Alternate Ingredient Suggestions

When I put this up for a poll on my Instagram stories, I found out that there are few who dislike or do not prefer eating bacon. So if you are one among them, then I would suggest you modify this recipe into a sausage and farfalle pasta recipe. Simply replace the bacon with any sausage of your choice and proceed with the rest of the recipe.

In fact, you can replace the Bacon in this recipe with a number of ingredients, such as –

  • Salami – Slice them into thin strips and fry them before adding them to the pasta
  • Prawns – Fry them and add to your pasta
  • Chorizo – although it is again pork, can be used here. Chop them and give them a stir in some oil or butter before adding them to your pasta
  • Eggs – chop up hard-boiled eggs and serve them on top of the pasta
  • Mushrooms – Stir-fry and add it to the pasta

Make-ahead or Freezing Option

In case you like to prep your meals ahead, then you can boil the pasta ahead of time and keep it ready-to-use in your refrigerator. You can also make the creamy pasta sauce ahead and store it in an airtight jar in your refrigerator.

Later, you can combine the two and add some crispy fried bacon to wrap the dish together. This way you can definitely cut down your cooking time by half.
